Monday's

We had a great weekend.

Friday night I was invited to hang out with friends but I wasn't able to find a babysitter. Both of my regulars were already booked. It was probably a good thing that I couldn't go. Elizabeth has a bad cough and it was good to just hang out at home and go to bed early. She actually fell asleep on the couch at 7:30 the night before.

Saturday we had gymnastics at 10 (Ella) and then at 12:30 (Elizabeth). We went to Noodles and Co for lunch and ran into a neighbor. He was there with a group he works with from the Army Reserves and stopped over to say hi. I think we will try new places each week. Its easier to pack the girls up and run for lunch somewhere then to go home and try to get them back out of the house again. :-) I was proud of Elizabeth for going. She got back on the horse so to speak. The week before she fell off the high bar and landed on pads but it freaked her out. She was not hurt but her arm was rubbed on something when she fell so she kind of babied it a little. I also did the same. I gave her a sling to wear but by dinner time last week she was fine. So, I was glad there were no issues going this week for her. Way to go Itty!

Sunday we took Dad to church. He did great during church but started having walking issues on the way out. We got a close parking spot at the breakfast place we go to but Dad froze up and couldn't get his body moving well. I suggested taking him back to his place with a stop for donuts on the way. He thought that was a great plan. The girls and I did that and then went back to breakfast. Our parking spot wasn't as great the second time but the girls did wonderfully. We then went to a discount hair salon and Ella got her bangs trimmed and Elizabeth got alot cut off. I think they took off 3 inches but its a cute style for her. Ella wants her hair to look like the Snow Princess.... Dora. She thought the hair dresser could make her hair long. Poor girl. I knew she wanted long hair so I just had them clean up the bottom but also a nice bang trim. When we got home they went in the basement and played and I got over an hour by myself. I was trying to take a nap but just ending up laying on the couch. It was heaven. Thanks Girls!!!!

At some point during the weekend Elizabeth told me she didn't want to be fat. She said she wants to always be skinny. I didn't think that started so young but it did get me thinking. I am not the best example so if I want them to believe you can have a good body image while eating healthy, I need to start doing that too. We had a great discussion about how being healthy was better than being skinny because some skinny people don't eat and that's not healthy. She understood and even said no more McDonalds for us Mom. I am all for that. One night a week we have to eat quick because of Faith Formation class but now I think we will find a better solution. Elizabeth and I talked about doing exercise so I am going to get a dvd we can do together. Heck, I was finally able to quit smoking two weeks before her referral in 2003 so maybe this is finally my time to start with a healthier lifestyle!

Last night while we were rocking I told Ella I loved her (do that all the time) and that I loved her foster mom and dad in China. Ella asked if that was when she was a baby, Yup. "When I was in a highchair Mom?" I asked what color was her highchair. "I don't know Mom" "In the pictures?" I explained I don't have pictures of her in a highchair. "Yes you do, the China book Mom" So, I'll check the photos from the Orphanage to see but I don't recall a highchair one. So that may be Ella's first verbalization of her foster care.

This morning I wasn't sure if both girls were going to school and daycare. Elizabeth still has a cough but no fever. She had breakfast and was picking on her sister so I didn't think she was sick enough to stay home. Got her to school and then Ella didn't want me to leave daycare. I was expecting a phone call from either one or both places but so far so good. Hope I don't jinx us.

Wow, Joan. The Tongginator rarely talks about her foster family. She mentions her Abu, but doesn't have any memories (real or pretend) of her first year there.
