God's Hand

Yesterday the girls and I went to see Phineas and Ferb at the Excel.  I was able to get free tickets and we had a great time.  I bought them both a souviner as well as an icee in a P&F cup.  We all enjoyed the show and were talking about our favorite parts on the walk to the car.  We continued to talk about what to do the rest of the afternoon when we got in the car.  I was checking to see if they had the energy to go shopping as they have grown a bit and their winter play clothes are very limited.  As we were getting going, Ella said Yes to shopping if I also buy them a toy.  Elizabeth agreed.  I got angry.  I told them I just spent a bunch of money on toys and gimmicky stuff and they should show some appreciation for those before they ask for new stuff.  We were at a red light and I looked across the street and saw people lined up at the Dorothy Day center.  I told the girls "Do you know what those people are lined up for across the street?"  "They are lined up for food - they don't have enough to eat and are lined up to eat the food given out at the Dorothy Day Center".   That quieted the girls down.  We also went straight home and didn't go shopping.  At dinner we said prayers and they both added prayers for people that don't have enough to eat or a place to sleep.

I do think that was God's Hand.

What a great lesson you thought the girls. One our kids need to hear more often.
