Free Day

Today Day Care is closed so Ella and I have a free day. Beth's (daycare provider) daughter Bri is competing in State for Gymnastics! Way to Go BRI!!! Can't wait to see how you do.

Ella and I are going to meet up with Grandma Jo at Sister Isadore's. My great aunt is a Sister of St Joseph and lives in the retirement home at St Catherine's College. She loves it when I bring the girls and we have not been there in a very long time. So, it will be good to see her today. After our visit, Joanne Ella and I are going out to lunch and maybe some shopping. I am going to check with Elizabeth's school to see what time her lunch and play time is. Maybe we can bring Grandma Jo by. I haven't said a word to Elizabeth just it case it doesn't work out.

The girls and I had a nice weekend. We were going to go to Marshall MN with my dad and brother for the day on Saturday but it didn't work out. Dad and Kevin still went though and had a great visit with Dad's family. The girls and I are going to make a trip in May to visit with family.

Friday Elizabeth received an invitation to go the the Minnesota Zoo with a friend from daycare. I called in the evening to confirm. While on the phone I asked if Ella and I could join the party. Of course that was ok with Madison's mom. But, it wasn't ok with Elizabeth. She very respectfully asked if she could go alone without me or Ella. I told her I appreciated her telling me her feelings and called Madison's mom and explained. She laughed and said no problem. They picked up Elizabeth on Saturday and brought her back right before supper. Ella and I took a nap as well as did some decorating. I finally hung a picture I had done for Ella's room during our China trip. Had it framed a few weeks ago. Then I started hanging curtains. Elizabeth got home in time to help me with hers. Then I started on Ella's but I broke the drill bit in the last hole on the one window. So I'll finish the other window today. We bought new bits at the store yesterday.

I also talked to Elizabeth about allowances on Saturday. I confused her a little bit because I gave her money for the zoo. But, she was going like gang busters to do chores on Saturday and Sunday. She made everyone's bed both days and found many other ways to help out. So, I think my almost 6 year is ready for it. I am going to make a chart so I can list chores for them. Then when they get them done, I will put a check mark next to the chore. Each Saturday we will have pay day. :-)

Sunday we took Dad to church and breakfast and then went to Target for Birthday Party invitations and drill bits. :-) We also looked at the cake book for ideas. I think Elizabeth decided on a High School Musical cake but I need to double check. It was going to be a princess cake with a crown but then she changed her mind. After the shopping we came home and I tried to get them to nap but was not successful. So we went outside and played and then went to my friend Reenie's for a BBQ. That was fun. But, Elizabeth showed some more growing up. The other kids are a little older with Michael being the same age as Elizabeth. The older kids were going to the Tennis Courts which are 2 blocks away. Elizabeth asked if she could go so I let her. I watched her walk down the block and she did great. My main concern was she said "Mom, I want to play with the boys" I am not ready for that though. :-) But what is next? First she wanted to do something fun without Mom on Saturday and now the boys... oh help me. All kidding aside, I am proud Elizabeth is growing up. We need to have talks about safe touch and strangers etc again though. I can just see the eye rolling and "Mom, I know" comments.

Poor Ella had moments too this weekend. She was very loving at church yesterday. She was sitting by Dad and pulled him close to kiss his forehead. I could just about hear all the people by us sigh and say how cute. Ella is a very loving girl and she adores her Poppa. She sat by him at breakfast too. That scored her 3 pours of maple syrup. At that point I took the bottle away. LOL

At Reenies, Ella wanted to go with Elizabeth to the tennis courts but I would not let her. That got me a "You're Mean" from Ella. Usually I say thanks when Elizabeth says that because it means I am doing my job but this time I just distracted Ella in the back yard and all was well.

The girls decided to watch a movie in my bed last night after their bath. Well I don't think they saw more than 10 minutes before they both crashed. A sign of a great weekend!

Update.
Here are pictures from our morning with Sister Isadore as well as lunch with Grandma. Ella also took some pictures before we left for Sister's place. Thank goodness for digitial. I am getting really good at deleting. But I did save some of them.

Ella's pictures of Mom and the Picture Door:

Ella loved hanging out at Sister Isadore's She was a big hit with the staff as well as the other nuns. One nun even stopped to ask for Ella. Ella also played in the hallway and was playing hide and seek with me.
