Please pray for the people of China

I still can't wrap my head around the tragedy in China but want to thank my friends that have asked if my girls are from that area of China. My girls were not from the part of China devastated by the earthquake. My heart is aching for the families there. I read a story on the NPR blog from Chengdu about one family's search for their child. It was heartbreaking to read but I don't want to forget.

I just read an entry from a another family's blog that was in Wuhan when the earthquake hit Sichuan Province: "As I noted yesterday while posting our blog, we felt the earthquake for quite a while with our building swaying, but that was it. The bathroom has a few more cracks in the ceiling, but other than that, all seems the same."

Update 5/15/08
I received an email at work that Elizabeth's teacher is directly impacted by the earthquakes. Her family is from Chengdu. Zhou Lashi's sisters lost everything and are now living with their parents. They have not heard from their grandfather but everyone else is ok. The immediate problem is they are running out of food. Elizabeth's school is having a carnival Friday and there will be a collection to help this family out. I gave to it today when I picked Elizabeth up.

Here is a portion of another email I just received: Because of her pregnancy, her family had kept the information from her until yesterday morning. It turns out that her sister and family lost their entire house and all their belongings. And, the school where her father was principal for 35 years was completely demolished as well. At last report they had food enough for 2 days. Zhou Laoshi has emptied her bank account to send to them, which I'm sure was not a difficult decision, but may prove difficult later on with a baby on the way.

Here is Elizabeth with Zhou Laoshi last September when she started school:

She is a wonderful teacher and I feel horrible that her family was directly impacted by the earthquake. I am thankful they are all alive.
