On Monday on the way to school we were talking about one of Elizabeth's teachers. She is ready to have a baby and we were talking about if she would be back to school this year or not. This topic led us down "the path" - you know which one I am talking about.
Elizabeth said she knows how babies get in the mom's tummy because she has a book about bodies (she does and its well done). She said you have to be in love and the boy's heart and the girl's heart touch and that is how babies are made.
As sweet as that sounds, I decided to clarify.
Before I could though Ella said she was not going to have a boyfriend when she is Elizabeth's age.... really? Wow... that scares me.
So, to avoid that, I got us back on topic with how babies are made. We did a quick overview of boy parts and girl parts and just a general idea of how they work together. I also repeated that they are right... you should be for sure in love before you think about making babies. I figured that was good for an almost 6 year old and almost 9 year old and that we were done.
Ella had different ideas.
She wanted to know if the boy part stays on the boy? (We used the real name, I just don't want to type that on the blog and get all kinds of hits when people google that word.) Yes it does Ella. Even when they are teenagers? Oh Yea. Or when they are Dads? Yup, even then.
Somewhere in there was a comment about how they thought the process was gross. Whew... they are normal kids.
I thought about not updating the blog with this discussion but I knew I would want to remember it for when the girls have serious relationships. It's all about the circle of life and family you know. But please don't mention it to my girls if you see them. I am hoping they forget all about it for awhile.
It is kind of funny that discussion took place on Valentine's Day. :-)

Joan, It sounds like you handled the situation with your usual honesty and calm manner. I hope I can be as coherent when Flynn asks her questions. Bravo to you.
This is very funny!!! Thanks for sharing!!
