Biking

Big day today.

The girls rode their bikes to school instead of me dropping them off.

I gave them a suggested route and did request they cross at the light because not many cars stop at unposted intersections for kids.  I waited for a few minutes after they left and drove up our street.  I saw them doing ok so I moved on to Selby.  I parked a few blocks down from the intersection I wanted them to use and just waited. I was far enough away that they couldn't see me but close enough that I could make sure they were safe.   ;-)

When they crossed the street at the light they were now a group of 3.  I am guessing another neighbor child joined them and they all rode to school together.  In my day there were many more kids from our blocks riding and walking to school.  We had crossing guards at most of the biggest intersections.  They don't have those anymore - just nearer to the school.  Makes sense since there are fewer kids going there now.

I am excited for this change and bittersweet.  My babies are moving along on the correct path and I don't really want to slow it down but its a little tough.  And it makes me miss Dad a bit again.  When were were kids, we could stop at Dad's barbershop on the way home if it was cold or we just wanted to say Hi.  That was a wonderful blessing for us and I miss him.  So, I said a prayer to Mom and Dad to keep my girls safe.

On another positive note, I was on time for work.  :-)
