Today Ella had her 4 month check up with Dr Cermain at Gillette. Ella is so so so close to being done with her night mask and had done such an awesome job. Her under-bite is now gone and her upper jaw has moved just in front of her lower jaw. AWESOME !!!! Ella asked all the questions today which was wonderful. She is the one doing the hard work and I like that she is invested in the progress too.
The main questions were "Am I done with the retainer/night mask?" Not yet - Dr Cermain would like a little more movement for insurance because there will be some slight movement back when Ella is done.
"What happens after I am done with the mask" She will just wait until her baby teeth are out and then braces. We will continue to be seen every 4 months to make sure there isn't great movement on her jaw and in about a year Ella will get braces. At the next appointment, they will do new xrays so they can get the numerical details for the movement but we saw the one from 3 years ago today and you can just see how far Ella's upper jaw has moved. It also showed that the tooth at the cleft is coming in turned but braces will take care of that. And it showed there is an extra tooth at the cleft. That led to Ella's next question - "Will it need to be pulled out?" Yes, probably.
Bottom line, it looks like in 4 months Ella will be done with the night mask. Hot Diggity Dog!
Ella also told Dr. Cermain about the sewing class she is taking this week so Dr C wants to hear about that when Ella is back. She also showed Dr C the pictures of Mr Rosie's handiwork when it comes to ripping up paper... some mornings are a surprise around here. Last night he got the napkins in the closed drawer and tore them up. Somehow I think the drawer wan not 100% shut.
Ella also brought up comparisons with her friend that is using a night mask too. Her friend had upper teeth that had a gap and has been doing the mask for a few months now along with some braces. Her teeth have moved alot and Ella said even though she is proud of her friend, she is jealous too. So we had a good chat about the differences in the work being done and that yes it was great her friend was nearing the end sooner, that Ella had more teeth to move. Ella also told Dr C that she takes breaks sometimes at night and both Dr C and I said that is ok and what you need to do.
Later today Elizabeth has a dentist appt as well. Her's is to put the sealant on her molars that are coming in. Later this month Elizabeth has her check up with her Orthodontist. I bet we start talking about the schedule for braces for her too. So, it looks like I may have two kids in braces somewhat at the same time. Hope it all goes well for them both.
Ella and Dr. Cermain Jan 2015. Ella started this night mask / under-bite correction process in late April 2014.
