High school

Elizabeth and I are in the process of looking at High Schools.

We started last year but it was only recently that Elizabeth told me her first choice.

I am praying it all works out and I can give that to her but I am also being honest that it all depends on the financial aid package.  So, here's hoping a single mom with 2 kids and normal bills can qualify.  From what I hear,  its doable.

Anyway, November is the month I set aside to fill out the paperwork and do the application process.  It is also the month to set up the shadow appointments.  We didn't do shadows when I was going to high school.  My choices were given to me by my dad... the school had to have home EC.  So that meant St. Agnes, St. Bernard's or Totino Grace.  I didn't know where Grace was so that was eliminated.  I found out that St. Bernard's had a rule that girls with long hair had to wear them in a pony tail and I hated my hair in a pony.  So it was St. Agnes.  I loved it at St. Agnes and only took Home EC one year.  :-)  Many good memories and great friends to this day.

I have set up the days that Elizabeth will spend at the three schools and funny thing is one is St. Agnes.  They don't have Home EC class anymore though.  ;-)

I am excited for her take on the school day and hope she is able to relax and enjoy it.  She has some great insights now about life and this will add to her experience.    All of them will provide a free hot lunch that day but that will end up being a luxury and not a given.

I don't think we will go public schools.  The unfortunate thing is there are many troubles happening at the local public schools in our city.  The only one I am currently comfortable with is outside our neighborhood so we may not be able to get in anyway.

I had doubts a couple of years ago about our public school system and was trying to set things up so we could move to a school district with a good public school system.  I was trying to sell during the down turn in the market and no one made an offer.  Now Ella is in the school of her choice and Elizabeth is close to being in the school of her choice and will have a strong voice in the process.  I believe this is God telling me He will show me the way.  And one of those ways will be to cut out the extras we can live without, like cable and hot lunch at schools.
