Monday was the "Meet your teacher" night and that was lots of fun. Thankfully the school found a great program and parents can buy the school supplies directly from this program and it is delivered to school. I don't have to shop and I don't have to haul it all to school on Back to School night. Yes, it costs a bit more, but the ease is worth it all. So, we just get to meet the teacher and turn in paperwork. Then it is out to the playground to reconnect with friends not seen all summer.
Tuesday I had the day off and we went the State Fair. We got there about 10 am and got home at 7 pm. A little longer than I had planned but we had so much fun. I do admit to getting a little cranky at the end... this old lady is not built for that much walking in one day. But all in all the day was fantabulous. I can't count the number of times we walked past the haunted house. Ever time we did Ella wanted to stop and look. Elizabeth and I wanted to walk on by. To get to the park and ride bus we had to walk by it one more time. This time a "Jason" like character was out on a small stage. He was moving like a robot but I could tell it was a real person. Ella wanted to look up close so she went to the fence. I was just waiting for when he would come off the stage and when he did it was so funny. I had whispered to Elizabeth that it was a real person and she didn't believe me until she too saw his wedding ring. So, when the guy tried reaching through the fence to get another child to shake his non spiked hand, Ella pulled my hand and said LETS GO MOM. I almost cried laughing when "Jason" tried climbing the fence. And Ella didn't believe us that he was real and not a monster until we were well out of reach. :-) A great ending to a great day.
The girls were bathed and asleep by 8 for Ella and 8:30 for Elizabeth.
They were all set to go this morning at 7:15 but Ella was crying. She was not wanting to go to school. Elizabeth was being very kind and we both gave Ella some extra love. She wanted her old teacher back. I reminded her that she felt that way last year too and that everything turned out great with her new teacher. That will happen again this year. I am just glad she was able to tell me what was wrong. Ella has made great strides emotionally and is able to tell us why she is mad, sad, grumpy more than before. Great work Ella! That communication helps you and me.
I can't wait to pick them up to find out how the day went.
Ella meeting her 2nd Grade Teacher (8/27/12)
Elizabeth with her 5th Grade Teacher (8/27/12)
8/29/12 - My Second Grader
8/29/12 - my 5th Grader
Here's to a great year girls!
Ella said her day was awesome and she her desk and Zhen's desk are next to each other which is the best news ever Mom.
Elizabeth said her day was good and was excited that as a 5th grader she gets to change rooms during the day with different teachers and mix of kids. She also wants a red shirt. The uniform changed and 5 - 8 graders can wear red polos with black bottoms or red plaid skirt. Or they can wear the regular blue and black. She said no thanks to the plaid skirt but wants the red polo. I haven't had luck finding many in her size so I'll be ordering soon.
They were in bed by 8 and sleeping shortly after. With the heat there was an extra bit of tiredness. But, they were both playing cards in aftercare with good friends when I got there. So I was happy about that.
Love you both... proud of you both and cannot wait to see what this year brings.
