Last night after work the girls had eye appointments. It has been about a year since the last appointment. Ella was first. She was so funny. She was very serious about doing what the Doctor asked her and tried her best with the letters but was struggling to see clearly. When it was refraction time (testing with her glasses and additional lenses) she got so excited. When the letters became clear like she was used to in the past she loudly exclaimed I CAN SEE IT. Ella was very excited and every time he tweaked the settings, she was as excited as the first time. You could see the Doctor trying not to laugh but at the end of the appointment, he did say that was the most excitement he has ever seen from a refraction. Last year Ella's point of clarity was 3 feet, that has moved closer now so her eyes did change over the last year and clearly needs new lenses.
Then it was Elizabeth's turn. Her eyes have also changed and she is a tiny bit near sighted. Elizabeth's eyes are where Ella's were last year. She can see clearly for up to a meter and then it gets blurry. Elizabeth used to have glasses when she was 2 - 4 years old. But somehow her astigmatism went away. When she was being examined Ella was still playing with the Doctor's lenses and talking about how much better she will see now. Elizabeth was a great patient and when it was done she even put on Ella's glasses and retested and saw that she could see clearer with those on.
So the next step was finding out what insurance would cover and purchasing new glasses.
Elizabeth's are all covered except for about $12. Ella's on the other hand, only the lenses are covered. My insurance only pays for new frames every 2 years. As an adult, that works out fine. But, for kids who continue to grow, that is harder. But the place we go gives a 30% discount in that case. They both are getting transition lenses and anti glare and scratch protection (those were extra costs for both but I think they are important additions). I had to go to the bathroom so they were with the nice people and by the time I got back, Elizabeth had her new glasses all picked out. Very Very Cute. Ella on the other hand took FOREVER. But, she ended up with ones that fit her face very nicely. Now the girls have to have patience to wait.
Elizabeth also told Ella not to tell people she is getting glasses - she wants to surprise people. So, if you see Elizabeth before she gets hers, please don't say a word.
When we were done we went out to eat at a Chinese Place nearby. We were also celebrating referrals. Ella's referral was 1/10/07 and Elizabeth's was 1/21/03. I also quit smoking a couple of weeks before Elizabeth's referral. Hard to believe its been 10 years since I first saw Elizabeth's face and 6 years since I first saw Ella's face. How those faces have changed.

I can hardly wait to see the girls with their new glasses. I won't say a word to Ella until I see her sporting the new frames.
Congratulations on your no smoking anniversary. My dad gave up smoking when he knew Flynn was coming into our lives. It's just another amazing good thing these girls give to us--motivation to be better people!
